TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Hide Away Safes are made from LEXAN®, a General Electric Trademarked Modified Polycarbonate known worldwide for its great strength and extremely high impact resistance. Tough as steel, virtually indestructible. A resilient memory material which makes the unit prise-proof, even assuming that a thief finds the installation in the first place. GE LEXAN® is so strong it is used in high security applications to manufacture products such as:

  • Police riot shields
  • Jet fighter canopies
  • Bullet-resistant windows
  • Space shuttle windows
  • Prison mirrors
  • Bank security screens

LEXAN®, the miracle material is light weight which makes the Hide Away Safe effortless to carry. You can relocate it from its docking station at your work environment to the docking station in your vehicle, then secure it in its docking station in your home.

Weighing just 1.5kg, measuring 360mm long, 185mm wide and 70mm deep, the Hide Away Safe can be hidden just about in any out-of-sight location you can think of.

The World's First RELOCATABLE High Security, Practically Indestructible, Light Weight Safe.

It is important to note that LEXAN® Polycarbonate is a fire resistant material but it is not fire-proof. The Hide Away Safe was designed as an anti-theft device. The selection of the material was primarily with consideration for impact resistance and overall strength. While the fire-resistant aspect of the polycarbonate is a bonus to users it was not a primary consideration in terms of design or application.

The Hide Away Safe range of security safes is manufactured in our own special formulae of  LEXAN®,  Modified Polycarbonate. While our particular polycarbonate is extremely heat insulative it is not officially classified as fireproof.

There are no fire standards written for polycarbonate security safes as we are the only manufacturer in the world to produce one. Consequently there has been no specific fire rating given to our product. Nothing is exactly fire proof, our products are termed fire resistant and are very insulative.

HEAT TEST

A frequently asked question is "are the Hide Away Safes fireproof?". To answer that question we conducted a monitored heat test, comparing the condition of an identical paper product placed inside a Metal Safe and the Hide Away Safe, in a pre heated kiln at 400c for 15 minutes.

During the test, the internal temperatures of the metal safe reached 250c and the paper product inside started to char (paper will start to ignite around 250c). In comparison, the The Hide Away Safe's internal temperature reached 150c and the paper product remained unaffected. The result showed:

Physical condition of safes:

Metal Safe - relatively unaffected by test heat.

The Hide Away Safe, a little 'sad' looking - it needed replacing.

Physical condition of contents:

Paper inside Metal Safe was basically destroyed by the heat.

Paper inside The Hide Away Safe was unaffected.

The protection of the contents of a safe is the most crucial aspect of safe ownership. The price to replace the The Hide Away Safe is a small investment after the trauma of a fire.

STERILE TEST

The Hide Away Clinic Safe is the only Polycarbonate Safe in the world that can be autoclaved (sterilised cleaning) before using it for another purpose. The clinic safe has undergone rigorous testing in terms of design, safety and Industry Specific Requirements. The folowing is an exert from those tests, it lists the test procedures:

  • Soaked in Milton Solution (1 in 80) for 8 hours.
  • Sterilised in a Pan-flush at 95 deg for 5 minutes x 20 times.
  • Autoclaved at 134 deg at 209 lbs / sq inch pressure x 20 times.

In all tests, the Clinic Safe remained unchanged in structure and appearance.
